Dance is an exciting living art form which involves students as participatory learners. It taps modalities of learning which children do not have enough opportunities to use.
Tania Santiago teaches a variety of dance forms from Northeastern Brazil, the heart of the country's African ancestry and culture. Tania emphasizes rhythm and expression in her work with the music and her choreography. The nature of Afro-Brazilian dance invites a study of African culture as it exists in Brazil. Passing the cultural significance and history of the dances is an important part of Tania's work.
Tania teaches a dance class every Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at the Brazilian Cultural Academy in San Francisco, 2376 Mission St. at 20th St (415-284-6196)
Classes always have
live percussion.
Tania is also avaliable for single or multi-day workshops as well as a residency as choreographer for performance groups.
